How to Choose a Coworking Space in Kochi: A Practical Guide
A practical checklist for choosing a coworking space in Kochi — location, desk type, real monthly costs, internet reliability and the right questions to ask.

Kochi has become Kerala's busiest hub for flexible workspaces. Between Infopark, Kakkanad, MG Road and Marine Drive, you have more options than ever — which is great, until you have to actually choose one.
Here's a practical way to narrow it down.
Start with commute, not price
The cheapest desk you dread travelling to is the one you stop using. Before comparing prices, decide the area that works for your daily routine — then compare only within it.
In Kochi that usually means choosing between:
- Kakkanad / Infopark — closest to the IT crowd, good for teams who want to be near clients and talent.
- MG Road / Marine Drive — central, well connected, better for client-facing work and meetings.
- Edappally / Palarivattom — often better value, with easier parking.

Match the desk type to how you actually work
This is where most people overspend. The three common options:
| Desk type | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Hot desk | Freelancers, 1–2 days a week | No fixed spot, storage limited |
| Dedicated desk | Daily solo work | Costs more than a hot desk |
| Private office | Teams, confidential calls | Highest cost, least flexible |
If you take calls all day, a hot desk in an open hall will frustrate you no matter how good the price is. If you're in twice a week, a private office is money sitting idle. Be honest about your pattern before you sign.
Ask what the price actually includes
An advertised monthly rate rarely tells the whole story. Ask specifically:
- Is GST included, or added on top?
- How many meeting room hours are included per month, and what's the rate after that?
- Is there a security deposit, and what are the refund terms?
- Are printing, lockers, and parking included or billed separately?
- What's the notice period to leave?
Two spaces quoting the same headline number can differ meaningfully once these are added.
Test the internet before you commit
For most people this is the single most important amenity, and the easiest to verify. When you visit, run a speed test yourself — during working hours, not early morning. Ask:
- What's the actual bandwidth, and is it shared or dedicated?
- Is there a backup line from a second provider?
- What happens during a power cut — is there a generator or UPS covering the whole floor?
Power reliability matters as much as raw speed in Kerala. A space with a solid generator and a second ISP will keep you working on the days your home setup wouldn't.
Visit at your working hours
A space feels completely different at 11am on a Wednesday than during a quiet Friday tour. Ask to drop in when it's busy. You'll learn more in twenty minutes than from any brochure — how loud the common area gets, whether meeting rooms are actually free, how crowded the parking is.
A quick checklist
Before you decide, confirm:
- The commute works on your worst-traffic day.
- The desk type matches your real weekly pattern.
- You've seen the full cost, including GST and deposit.
- You've tested the internet yourself during peak hours.
- You know the notice period and deposit refund terms.
- You've visited during busy hours.
